Aux -> SUA on Vista 5308 (Mar. 2, '06, 6:43:18 AM)

Have anyone tried to run SUA on Vista build 5308? I can not run any of software - posix.exe simply "hangs" (blank screen, ctrl+c quits and nothing more). I tried to run initial binaries (loginenv) and unpacked binaries from utilities for Windows Server 2003 R2 (ksh, zsh). Maybe I need to make some magic with configuration files/registry?

The R2 Utilities and libraries are not for any of the Vista builds.
The R2 package will not work on Vista.
With Vista (beta or for final release) Microsoft has not yet officially announced anything for Interix/SUA.
So for the current Vista beta you cannot do anything with SUA.

Rodney,

How about SFU 3.5? I don't have a Vista build at the moment to try it on.

SFU 3.5 does not install on R2 or on Vista.
Post-3.5 there have been changes to the kernel API's so the Interix subsystem
also needs to match these changes. And, no, MS has no plans for SFU to install
on R2 or Vista (or anything after) since the parts/components are part of the
base installation now.
So you have to wait until one of the next Betas before using SUA/Interix.

I understand that R2 Utils are not working, but it seems that SUA is not working at all right now!

The whole process of creating an OS distribution is a non-trivial task with
all of the different parts to go into it generated by different groups and
then to go through testing and verification. I have no special inside information
but I can guess that what you see in the current Beta is, in part, a test of
gathering up parts from the various sections at Microsoft. It is "beta" and,
if history is an indicator, there will be several beta's before the RC's (release
candidates -- of which there may be several).

SUA has been officially been described in Microsoft press release for Vista.

The SKU line-up for Vista has been publicly released, which means the ship vehicle for the UNIX components in Vista has also been announced. The press release is here: http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2006/feb06/02-26WinVistaProductsPR.mspx.
