Some are just "generic" to working with tex, while others are more source code specific. ed, sed, vi/vim, emacs/joe, awk, grep, col, colrm, rev, expand, unexpand, cat, flip, indent, csplit, sort, fmt, spell, nedit, lam, join, cut, caesar, md5/cksum, pr ed, sed, awk and grep are used a lot in shell scripts.
