mkoeppe -> copyright of gcc/binutils patches (Sep. 8, '06, 9:17:02 AM)

Hi all,

I'm trying to build a cross compiler hosted on Linux and targeted for Interix, see: http://www.interopsystems.com/tools/tm.aspx?m=9253

I first tried to use current upstream binutils, but it didn't work, because several MS patches to gas and ld where missing. So I asked at binutils upstream, what would be necessary to include the MS patches. They seem to be open for the idea, and MS seems to be open, too, according to README. However, as a necessary pre-condition they need the copyright assigned to the FSF before accepting any patches.

See: http://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2729#c14

While there is some to more-than-some work to do to adapt the patches to current binutils,
the first question now is: Whom to ask at MS for an official statement and for these copyright issues?

Martin

I've been wrong before, but find it hard to believe that Microsoft could be THAT stupid.

You need to find the right program manager to talk with.
Then they will start the long process of going through Legal.
Then you need to keep reminding people many times.
Your mileage will vary.
