I'm new to the site and I'm trying to install all the current packages but have had no luck. I've downloaded a few packages that require dependencies or env packages. pkg-add is trying ftp these dependencies from ftp://ftp.interopsystems.com/pkgs/3.5-x86/ and it can't. I tried doing it manually and I'm still having no luck. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Mike

Do you have a firewall running? If so which one?
Or do you run through an ftp/hhtp proxy?

I have a firewall. Norton internet security. Also have a linksys with a firewall. Both were disabled during some of my attempts. I can ftp to the site from the command line with the firewalls active. So I'm little stumped??

Thanks

Rodney,

I'm working now. I went out and did a manual ftp on everything that was needed to install pkg-current. It all appears to be working now. I do have another issue now. It's a little off topic but since I updated perl now it isn't working I'm getting:
libcrypt.so cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory. Any idea on this one. Thanks again.

You have to start a fresh shell after installing certain packages because
the environment variables get updated in the system login scripts.
For example, LD_LIBRARY_PATH gets /usr/local/lib added. But this won't get
picked up until a new login shell is started.

If you are able to ftp from the command line of an Interix shell, then
pkg_update and pkg_add should be able to reach out as well using
ftp. What messages were getting output to the screen?

First thing. The pkg-current-bin35.sh was the one I downloaded about a year ago. After I got the most recent all the installs are working great. I should of known better.

Second thing. I started another shell but it didn't correct error. I'm also getting an error about a space in my home directory path when installing the perl package. I would like to correct this first but not certain how to change my home directory. I'm not using a passwd or shadow file.

Thanks,
Mike

The warning about spaces in the home directory are to try and get things in
a more Unix way. Some applications may not deal well with spaces. In a related
sense Microsoft, for the Vista release, is setting a default Win32 HOME of
C:\Users instead of the "Documents and Settings" thing. Changing the home directory
can be done as described in the FAQ.
