The lastest fontconfig version 2.2.2 is
now available as a binary package or as source.
This includes the shared library support. If you download
the package you will also get the packages that fontconfig
depends on (other shared libraries: xft, expat, freetype, xrender,
render).
To install the package do:
pkg_add ftp://ftp.interopsystems.com/pkgs/3.5/fontconfig-current.bin.tgz

I've updated the fontconfig package to version 2.2.2.1
so that it includes the shared libraries now.
To update/install do:
pkg_add ftp://ftp.interopsystems.com/pkgs/3.5/fontconfig-current.bin.tgz
