Hi !

I run a largely (50 machines) various OS facility (11 different OS or OS versions). This is why the architecture team choose to have the NIS Server running under Solaris 8. I state this just to let you know this is something I can't change.

My problem is to have NIS working on the Win2000 machines so that the everyday user can keep sending standard commands without having to memorize the IP adresses of each machine. Win 2000 is SP2, SFU 3.0 working without Active Directory.

Googeling, I found out that a program named nisgina might do the work beeing a nis client under windows. I found nowhere to download a compiled version, but sources are available on the net.

Does anyone have ever used this program ? Any comments on it ?
Is it mandatory to recompile it on each and every machine or can I compile it once and spread it on all my Win2000 machines afterwards ?
Does anyone know where to find a compiled version ?
Does anyone have or can suggest an alternative solution ?

Sincerely

Bill

It took me only about 2 minutes to find NISgina binaries at:
http://www.plainjoe.org/win32/tools.html
There are likely other spots to find it too. I'm not endorsing
this site in particular or the software there (so caveat emptor).

I haven't used the program but it looks like the pre-compiled
version should be installable on multiple machines. Perhaps
someone who's used it (or something else) will comment.

Thanks Rodney

However the binaries you indicate are binaries for Windows NT4 and I search those of Windows 2000. http://nisgina.deakin.edu.au/ is the place where a Windows 2000 version is mentioned, but no binaries download seem available.

Sincerely

Bill

There is the source code. You could compile it and give it a try.
(http://www.arch.usyd.edu.au/~doug/ seems to be the spot)
An MSDN article was mentioned but I don't find it on MSDN now.
I think you'll just have to compile it and try it.
