One of the first things I did with Interix 3.0 was to port over my favorite editor, vim/gvim. Took a bit, but I got it to work. I' d like to make it available for others -- what' s the procedure? And I' d love for someone to do a better port -- at the time, I didn' t have Motif libraries available, so the gvim implementation is pretty basic.

There are a couple of issues I' ll deal with in popular order:
a) porting code: by all means we' d like the community to add to the pot of available software ported. I' d like it to be in a state that I can unbundle it and build it. No additional work on my part other then maybe pulling out the README and LICENCE from the bundle for people to preview on the /tools web site.
b) submitting ported code: depends on the size of it. If it' s nice and small then bundle it as tar/gzip and e-mail it as an attachment. If it' s a bit bigger place it somewhere where I can go and collect it by anonymous ftp or http. We just can' t do anonymous ftp downloads (files to ftp.interopsystems.com) because of all the DoS issues. If that' s still a problem let' s trade e-mail and see what can be worked out.

If someone could port RPM technology then we could user Interix RPMS..... I know this is showing my reluctance in using tarballs and make scripts....

This is good information to know.
We' ve set priorities for which programs are getting ported based on what we think people are interested in having. By actually having someone, such as you, tell us what' s of value/interest helps.
By all means, voice opinions everyone should voice an opinion about what would interest them.

How big can you handle in email? I' ll send you my port of vim/gvim 6.1 if I can. Else send me an email and we' ll arrange a time for you to come get it from me.

I' d limit the size to about no more than 1M for an e-mail. Most mailers are allowing this size through now and I think the Interop ISP is okay with this size.
