Hello everybody,

I am trying to upgrade my version of FTP in Interix and I got the binary package.

However, it looks like I need to use a tool like pkg_add to install it, but I do not find that tool in my Interix system nor in the internet for download.

Although I can just unzip-untar and manually put the files in place; I wonder what is the method we are supposed to use to install.

Any help will be appreciated.

hi,

The next release of SFU (3.5) will include pkg_add (<- just fyi).

For 3.0 there is a shell script to download and run. This shell script is a self-extracting, self-installing script that places pkg_add and it' s friends (updated tar and ftp too) on your system. The updated tar and ftp are needed for enhancements.

Now in this case ftp will, after the script is run, be there. However, all the other available packages can now be obtained and installed easily.

The shell script is located at:
ftp://ftp.interopsystems.com/pkgs/pkg-1.2-bin3.sh
Download it and then run it as " sh pkg-1.2-bin3.sh" .

If you are using csh/tcsh remember to do a " rehash" .

The cool thing with pkg_add is that once it' s installed you don' t need to save packages. You can install directly from the Internet.
i.e. % pkg_add ftp://ftp.interopsystems.com/pkgs/xgalaga-2.0-bin.tgz

[ btw xgalaga is a lot of fun ]

You' re welcome.

I just found out that I have to back out my comment about pkg_add being in 3.5. It was on the 3.5beta, but for 3.5 final it seems it will not.
