i am trying to run systeminfo.exe - a commandline system information program in win 2003. It works fine in the glass terminal, but exits without any output in ssh and also on xterms.
This has been a standard problem i have encountered. Windows commandline utilities misbehaves on unix terminals. Is there some term settings or something i need to set?

It's a common problem for many win32 utils using command line interface and producing output to the screen. Try top.exe for example it's the same issue as top.exe is win32 util, so many other. I have not yet encountered any proper solution which is in fact very annoying.

cortex_ is correct.
Many Win32 programs are (from the view of any system but Win32) written
improperly. Some of the program's o/p goes to "stdout" but a bunch is
it is 'drawn' to the console directly.
As for a sol'n. I mentioned somewhere in the Forum a few months back that
I had a working solution. But it needed some more work (rough edges). I had
to place it on the back-burner because of other work (it's the winter season
now and, as some of you know, I run a ski shop, so it is busy). It will
happen though.
