The latest Windows DNS vulnerablility is another good
reason to be using the the /Tools BIND DNS. BIND 9 is
cabable of cleaning a poisoned cache and thus a better
choice for DNS.

The SANS web site has this notice about the DNS cache poisonings:
http://isc.sans.org/diary.php?date=2005-04-07

You may also be interested in the Slashdot coverage at:

BIND 9 for Interix comes with all of the tools, daemaons and libraries
that you normally have on Unix machines.

Quite a coincidence you should mention this just today. Have spend the last
three days reinstalling/reconfiguring our home network (some 7 machines). Now
the rest of the family manages perfectly well without my noisy servers and
do fine with cached credentials and local storage.

The last barrier out is an ISA Server 2004. So I've been wondering if I should
install bind as a caching forwarding DNS server (and parts of Interix, then) on
the ISA server. A test with IIS shows it works fine without the rest of the
ironmongery.

Some tests with ssh and a mixture of Interix/win32 show promising.
