Rodney,
We decided to try to work thru this.
I'm going to create a memory dump of the system the next time it hangs and open a case with Microsoft.

You said "If loginenv has "stuck" for some reason the potential causes will make for a short list", besides the patch and the DEP setting is there anything else I can look for?
Thank You,
--Don

Hi All,
First let me say that we were experiencing the loginenv issue on a HP system running VMWARE, however all our initial problems (hangs) were on real hardware (DELL) servers.
Our current customer wanted our system to run on their VMWARE servers.
Anyway we took the trouble to open a support request with Microsoft and provided all the information they asked for. Come to find out that SFU is not supported on VMWARE.
We were refered to this link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;897615
So it looks like we are going back to MKS because I have to do this on VMWARE.
Thanks,
----Don

It sux that you are having trouble getting support from Microsoft. Since your issue exists on real hardware, they are supposed to support it. It looks like you just have to demonstrate that it isn't related to VMWare by causing the issue outside of VMWare on real hardware or on VirtualPC.
quote:
Microsoft does not test or support Microsoft software running in conjunction with non-Microsoft hardware virtualization software. For Microsoft customers who do not have a Premier-level support agreement, Microsoft will require the issue to be reproduced independently from the non-Microsoft hardware virtualization software. Where the issue is confirmed to be unrelated to the non-Microsoft hardware virtualization software, Microsoft will support its software in a manner that is consistent with support provided when that software is not running in conjunction with non-Microsoft hardware virtualization software.
