Running Solaris 8 boxes supported from Interix. Need advice on best practice - should I attempt to modify Solaris (and how) or Interix. Generally want to work from a Solaris machine logging into the Interix server.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Found previous posts by others re terminfo. vi still complaining after I did:

On Interix did infocmp interix > interix.term
took file to Sun box did a tic -v interix.term as root -- anything else I need to do?

Had an error
# tic -v interix.term
Working in /usr/share/lib/terminfo
Created i/interix
Linked o/opennt
Linked o/opennt-25
Linked n/ntconsole
Linked n/ntconsole-25
Created i/interix-nti
Linked o/opennt-nti
Linked o/opennt-25-nti
tic: Warning: near line 2: terminal 'interix-nti|opennt-nti|opennt-25-nti|ntcons
ole-25-nti|OpenNT-nti compatible with color', 'n/ntconsole-25-nti' linkname too

Actually you did not have an error -- you had a warning.
The Solaris tic didn't like the longer name.
So don't worry about it.

For vi on Solaris: it could be running from termcap instead of terminfo.
Otherwise the new entries should have been found automatically when a fresh vi was started.
What does the Solaris man page for vi say? (termcap or terminfo?)
