Has anyone had any experience invoking an interactive shell within an Interix xterm. I do this routinely on Solaris, Linux and (in the past) Irix using the following syntax:

xterm -e csh -i &

or

xterm -e csh -if &

However, on Interix the xterm does not appear to run the shell interactively - rather it just runs up and immediately closes.

Also, on other systems xterm has file logging options (-l and -lf) that do not seem to be present under Interix. Any help here would be useful too.

The X11R6 xterm that ships with SFU has a bug for starting up.
There are two solutions:
a) Run the X11R5 xterm that ships with SFU (/usr/X11R5/bin/xterm).
b) Install the newer X11R6 xterm from here (/Tools).

The (b) option is X11R6.8.2 and is in also colour.

I will give this a go right now.

Thanks for your rapid and helpful response.

Incidently - I am porting an entire suite of Geological/Geophysical applications that consists of about 40 binary executables 40 shared object files and about 20 scripts. I am using X/Motif and OpenGL - some of the applications are very complex and all use Inter-Process-Communication and a central proprietary relational database. I am amazed how smoothly the port is going. Infact if I did not have to be in the position of writing-out some basic but heavily used 3rd party widgets that we cannot get on SFU I would have had the whole lot done in under a week - astonishing!!

Thanks again
