Hi all...
I have a laptop at work that used to work fine with pkg_add, etc. However, recently IT guys where I work applied patches, etc., and now after I ftp anywhere and do a dir or a get command, it looks like this:
> ftp ftp.interopsystems.com
Connected to ftp.interopsystems.com.
220 ProFTPD 1.2.9 Server (Interop Systems FTP Server 1) [ftp.interopsystems.com]
331 Password required for hinson.
230 User hinson logged in.
Remote system type is UNIX.
Using binary mode to transfer files.
ftp> dir
227 Entering Passive Mode (64,235,106,194,14,88).
200 PORT command successful
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for file list
ftp: netin: Connection reset by peer
226 Transfer complete.
ftp>
Any ideas?
It's not specific to interopsystems, but that the site for which I most often use ftp, and I was hoping someone here could help figure out the problem. Also, it's not a function of the internet connection, because I can take the laptop home and connect there with the same results.
Oh, and I _can_ use ftp://ftp.interopsystems.com/ in a Windows Explorer window and access the site, see the directory, download files, etc. But using ftp from SFU (or DOS for that matter) produces the error as above.
Thanks for any help!
-Jason

Sounds like a bad update for some AV software or firewall software.
I'll guess that it's wedged something in on the TCP/IP stack or locked down a port.

Thanks for the reply, Rodney....
Just found out that the FTP works from other desktop systems at work, so now I'm thinking it might be specific to some firewall software that only goes on the laptops.
I'll check it out and post if I figure out the problem.
Thanks!

I had a strangely similar problem with SFU FTP client. Things to keep in mind though. First, I too was connecting to a ProFTP daemon. Second the problem does not exist when using the windows FTP client from the same machine. Third, our problem was when uploading files (not downloading) as in the case above.
We rewrote our scripts to use the windows ftp client and have not had the problem again.
I'll see if I can get this configuration back for a bit more testing.

It shouldn't be an Interix ftp client to ProFTP daemon problem.
The /Tools ftp site uses ProFTP so we would have noticed something before.
When you say "SFU ftp client" do you mean the SFU 3.5 or /Tools version?
It's likely the DNS it's using isn't the right server or you have a proxy setup
that is used on the Win32 side but unknown to the Interix side.
