Hello everyone, this my first post and probably an easy fix. I have SFU 3.5 installed on a Windows XP Professional machine with SP2 and have also installed Toolworks 2.3. When I type xterm in a shell I get this Error: Can't open display: localhost:0.0 not sure were to start I have experience with Microsoft products, Redhat Linux, and couple flavors of UNIX but I am not a programmer. More of a hardware guy learning, I need access to a basic x terminal though so?

Thanks

Microsoft does not ship an X-server with SFU (or separately or with any other product).
You need to install either a commercial (pay-for) or freely available X-server for Windows.
So you can buy the Interopsystems version (based on Hummingbird's Exceed), or Exceed or XWin32.
XWin32 does have a "light version" (runnable only for the local machine) that free.
Other free versions are available such as Xming.

Ok thanks for the info. I figured it might be due to there being no X server but the way I read some things here, I thought that maybe xterm had been "modified" to run by itself with some accompanying libraries. Not knowing enough about the inner workings of the software “bytes” me again.

Thanks

Got Cygwin/X going, it is sufficient for now.

Thanks Again
