Hi,

we are running clearcase 2k3 on a sun server, and a clearcase client box running W2K3 R2 with SUA. everything is running fine on the client box, except that we cannot browse \\view\view_name. Via a mapped drive letter, the contents of the share can be browsed, but via a unc path, an error appears saying the location is unavailable. btw, i am referring to a dynamic clearcase view. The user account being used works fine on boxes running W2K3 SP1 with SFU 3.5 (this is our only R2 client box and the only box running MS SUA).
i have trawled through the forum and kb here and on ms and ibm, and done the usual googling, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It has been known for years at this point that the ClearCase driver is flawed.
This is going back as far as 1996 or 1997. ClearCase has known about it. The
information that the device driver is providing is incorrect or it doesn't provide
the information. I expect it's the latter right now because your running it through
SMB successfully is "buffering" the problem.

W2K3/SP1 working means that a newer driver is there.
See if you can get that driver to install on the Windows box you want to use.

Hi Rodney,

How is the driver flawed? Is it just an advertisement problem?

From your message it sounds like you are suggesting that there are two different drivers and a newer one has been installed on the W2K3/SP1 box but not on the W2K3/R2 box.

A few more details may greatly help.

Thanks,
Bernie.

Each device driver is to return certain types of information when asked.
To build up the information needed for a stat() API call, all of the
information is needed. MS has a standard set of information requests that
device drivers are to answer. Win32 programs in most cases don't need all
of these data. This results in device driver writers skipping the ones
that Win32 programs rarely request. This has been happening for years and
years. Back in the early '90's this was see regularly with most NFS client
device drivers (Hummingbird's was good, the others sucked). Today most of
the NFS drivers are fine (the MS one is fine). The ClearCase driver is not
returning successful responses to specific requests that all device drivers
(particularly ones that are to be "disks") should.

That's exactly what I'm writing. If it works on one box and not the other then there
are different device drivers (or the code has been written to respond differently
on the two systems). Interix has, is and will be always making the same requests.
So it's the device driver.

rodney,

i used the renamed the current mvs40.sys and mvfs50.sys (may 2005) and copied the ones from the w2k3 sp1 box (sep 2003)in, and then rebooted.
unfortunately it disnt make any difference.

anything else i would need to do?

Cheers
