Hi,
I have a set of scripts which, sometimes, get stuck in execution. These scripts don't use any windows command, only SFU base utilities.
Looking up for the problem, I used pstat to get processes states, and get 1 process in "Unconnected" state for infinite. The ps man page indicates that this is the state a process passes briefly through during its initialization, but in my case, it's not brief...
Having a look with ps, it seems that the problem occurs every time around pipes. Sometimes it's the "command" before, sometimes it's the "command" after.
Anyway, this is reproducible on my machine, and I can't find what happens...
Here's the pstat output on the stuck process:
pid=45829 ppid=24927 pgid=22307 sid=27051 state=2 Unconnected
flags=40 asuser
signal trampoline = 0x77EA2E3C,0x77EA2E7B nullapi = 0x77EA2E7C,0x77EA2F1E

Does anyone have any idea of what's going on ??
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Thomas

Which shell are you using?
Which hardware are you using?
Can you tell us what patch level you've installed? (O/P from uname -a).

Hi Rodney,
It happens with any shell (sh, ksh but also bash from InteropSystems).
For a case, the hardware is a Pentium 4, with windows XP Pro SP2, and SFU 3.5.
The uname -a command outputs:
Interix dell-tz 3.5 SP-8.0.1969.1 x86 Intel_x86_Family15_Model2_Stepping9
But it also happens on other machines, which are all 32 bits CPU with SFU 3.5. The OS are Windows 2000 SP4 and Windows 2003 (no SP, or SP1 with related SFU patches). I might have the problem on any configuration. This is a non predictible problem appearing in random cases.
I have made the tests with "simple" script, and it doesn't seem to be any problem. But when I use a set of script with a bunch of pipes, I get one stuck when I execute 20 of them at the same time. It is not a memory problem, as the 20 scripts don't use all the available memory.
Cheers

I wanted to check the shell just in case.
FYI sh and ksh in /bin are the same binary.
Historically there was a problem that manifested itself on multi-CPU machines
(it was an NT kernel problem, that seems to still be around for Xeon's according
to the reports of another member).
Version 8.0.1969.1 (aka *.1) is several hotfixes back. I suggest you try and get
the most recent hotfix (at least *.36 ; the release number aren't consecutive).
This may clear up your problem.
You need to ask MS support for the Official hotfix by e-mail'ing or calling.
At the end of it they should charge your credit card for the hotfix, but they'll
ask for it.

Or you can get it from http://www.duh.org/interix/hotfixes.php

Thanks,
It have installed the Recommended Hotfix Pack for Interix (including 886655, 887531, 902074 and 904358 hotfixes), and I don't have the "hang" problem anymore.
Thanks Mark for your useful link that brought me help in choosing fixes.
Cheers,
Thomas
