I'm some difficulty figuring out a strange permissions problem.

It seems that I can create directories in Explorer and access them from SFU without any trouble. I get into trouble if I create directories with SFU and try to use them with Windows.

Does anyone know if this is something that should work or should all directories/files created by SFU only be accessed by SFU and vice versa?

$ mkdir fromsfu
$ ls -al
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 1 sastest Biostatistics 0 Jun 9 17:14 fromsfu
$ chmod 770 fromsfu
chmod: fromsfu: Permission denied
$ ls -al
total 0
drwxrwx--- 1 sastest Biostatistics 0 Jun 9 17:14 fromsfu
$

$ cacls fromsfu
\\bart\toplevel\fromsfu MYDOMAIN\sastest:F
MYDOMAIN\Biostatistics:(special access:)
READ_CONTROL
SYNCHRONIZE
FILE_GENERIC_READ
FILE_GENERIC_WRITE
FILE_GENERIC_EXECUTE
FILE_READ_DATA
FILE_WRITE_DATA
FILE_APPEND_DATA
FILE_READ_EA
FILE_WRITE_EA
FILE_EXECUTE
FILE_DELETE_CHILD
FILE_READ_ATTRIBUTES
FILE_WRITE_ATTRIBUTES

Everyone:(special access:)
READ_CONTROL
SYNCHRONIZE
FILE_READ_EA
FILE_READ_ATTRIBUTES

$ cd fromsfu

sastest user tries to create directory in fromsfu using Window's Explorer.

$ ls -al
ls: New Folder: Permission denied
total 0
drwxrwx--- 3 sastest Biostatistics 0 Jun 9 17:15 .
drwxrwx--- 1 ldunston Biostatistics 0 Jun 9 17:14 ..
$

Thanks for any suggestions.

It's a look, but don't change from explorer. Windows File Explorer can/does muck things up.
There's an FAQ even (entry 1.12).
