my UNIX builds make libreal use of environment variables. This causes the SFU provided UNIX commands to fail with the following error:
There was an error connecting to the subsystem.
The error status code was 0xC0000001
while trying to launch program \??\C:\SFU\bin\loginenv.
Is there some minimum env size that SFU requires? Can it be manipulated? Can the Windows cmd.exe shell env size be manipulated? Thanks

The error message happens before the Interix program you are trying to run even starts.
When you start an Interix program from Win32 a Win32 program called POSIX.EXE is started
to facilitate the I/O from the Win32 GUI to the Interix programs.
The problem in this case has nothing to do with environment variables.
Check that the Interix subsystem is running (named PSXSS.EXE) in task manager.
If not then consult FAQ entry 1.02.
