I'm using the latest (2.6.2) pkg_add to unpack a local archive, e.g.
pkg_add /tmp/mytool-ver-bin.tgz
and three of the files packed in "mytool" do not get installed. There is nothing obviously different about these three files; they are duly listed in the +CONTENTS file, and their md5 checksums are correct. My earlier (2.5.4) version of pkg_add installs all the "mytool" files just fine. Has anyone else run into this sort of behavior?

Same behavior, by the way, if one accesses the package over the network:
pkg_add ftp://www.bell-labs.com/pub/sablime/interix3.5/CSSC-1.0.1-web-bin.tgz

(I mention this in case anyone in a position to debug pkg_add would like to test against the package having the problem. It's available by anonymous ftp at the address above.)

Can you tell me which files exactly you see the problem with?
Knowing will help work things out.

Thanks, I wanted to be sure we were seeing similar results.
The problem is fixed for version 2.6.3 (now available as an update, pkg_update -L pkg).

The problem was the first file listed that caused a new directory to be created after
the second directory created by the package would skip the "move into place" order.
One of those one line fixes

Don't know if you're planning to update the bootstrap installer to install the 2.6.3 version instead of the buggy 2.6.2 version, but the current bootstrap installer has an additional minor problem of not creating /var/db/pkg/sort-1.1-bin, and, in particular, not adding "pkg-2.6.2-bin" to /var/db/pkg/sort-1.1-bin/+REQUIRED. This causes a complaint when one upgrades to 2.6.3:

pkg_delete(pkg-2.6.2-bin): couldn't open dependency file `/var/db/pkg/sort-1.1-bin/+REQUIRED_BY'
