I have three installed packages which are not up to date: grep xargs and zlib. Trying to update each individually gives the same errors as using "-a", so I post the latter output:
pkg_update -a
Gathering installed package information...
Updating from location 'ftp://ftp.interopsystems.com/pkgs/3.5-x86': okay? [y]
Starting checks for updates
Percent complete/package:
38% |******************* | grepMemory fault
pkg_update: Problem updating package. Continuing. : No such file or directory
93% |********************************************** | xargsMemory fault
pkg_update: Problem updating package. Continuing. : No such file or directory
99% |************************************************* | zlibMemory fault
pkg_update: Problem updating package. Continuing. : No such file or directory
100% |**************************************************| zsh
Done.
I thought at first that this was due to the obcaseinsensitive key being missing, but adding it and rebooting (twice) did not help. I am not aware of anything else having changed. Any ideas?

This looks like the same as what gwojan is seeing.
To reiterate, I'm not seeing the same problem here, and I can see that
other are still running fine. But I may know what's the cause. I'm working
up a script to see if that'll clear this up for you.

I've placed a script at ftp://ftp.interopsystems.com/pub/patchbin for you.
Download the script to, say, "/tmp". Then run it ("sh patchbin") as the
local administrator or member of the administrators group.
Then give it try and do your "pkg_update -a" again.

Remember you asked me to delete /usr/local/bin/sort ?
Well, doing a pkg_update -a to pick up the new cat:
Gathering installed package information...
Updating from location 'ftp://ftp.interopsystems.com/pkgs/3.5-x86': okay? [y]
Starting checks for updates
Percent complete/package:
0% | | apropossh: /usr/local/bin/sort: not found
1% | | awksh: /usr/local/bin/sort: not found
2% |* | bashsh: /usr/local/bin/sort: not found
...
98% |************************************************* | zipsh: /usr/local/bin/sort: not found
99% |************************************************* | zlibsh: /usr/local/bin/sort: not found
100% |**************************************************| zshsh: /usr/local/bin/sort: not found
Done.
linking /bin/sort to /usr/local/bin works, of course.
